Dr Monica Esslin-Peard
After a distinguished career in broadcasting and international consultancy, Monica moved into secondary music education as a Head of Department.
She completed her PhD at the University of Liverpool in 2017 and is currently an Honorary Fellow in the Department of Music www.liverpool.ac.uk/music/staff/monica-esslin-peard/
Monica's research specialisms include reflective practice in musical learning within the context of undergraduate and postgraduate performance courses, pedagogies of reflective practice, popular and classical musicians, cross-genre musicking and inter-cultural pedagogies of reflective practice with a focus on students from the Chinese mainland.
Since 2022, Monica has been working with Samuel D Loveless
www.samueldloveless.co.uk on sound installation projects for HE, schools and the local community to facilitate new approaches to performance, improvisation and composition based on the principles of the Fluxus movement and experimental music.
She is a frequent presenter at international academic conferences and also chairs panels and gives keynotes.
Monica is active as a cellist with orchestras and opera companies in London, the South East and North West of England. She is in demand as a coach for youth choirs, composes music for drama productions and can be found making music as a cellist, woodwind player, guitarist, keyboard player and drummer.
